A STRANGER IN MY LIFE

A stranger came and spoke to me
Restricting time and energy
Familiar words
Familiar style
Not recognized
Yet all the while
The person looking in the mirror
Was not a vision that was clear
Distorted thoughts and fantasies
Unraveled like a mystery

Reflections of the person there
Was one of sadness and despair
An emptiness
All that remains
Of Someone lost
Without a name

Projecting life
Without a notion
Void of depth
No trace of motion
Pretending things will be the same
Life isn’t real
Life is insane

The sun will rise
And Life goes on
But every movie
Every song
Reminds me how it could have been
And how it’ll never be again
I can’t pretend it isn’t true
Because I’m here
And without you
There’s nothing anyone can say
To make me want to live a day
Without your presence next to me
To travel through eternity

I sit alone and feel the rain
I think of you
And once again
Remember how it used to be
When times were young
And spirits free

We ran together on the beach
And wished on stars
Far out of reach

Your innocence was sweet and pure
A child of God
I now endure
A loneliness
Through time and space
I close my eyes
I see your face

But looking close
I realize
The person there’s
Not recognized
I’d like to know
Who could it be
It might be you
It might be me

But either way
The image stays
Etched in my mind
For all my days

A stranger came
To say good bye
And now I know that I must try
To put the pieces back in place
Look in the mirror
See the face
